PHOTOGRAPHER

JOHANNA AQUINO

Johanna Aquino is a fashion and portrait photographer known for her natural and elegant approach to subjects. Always seeking professional partnerships, she works with clients and art directors to create high quality images for editorials, lookbooks and personal branding. While bringing her playful and positive attitude to teamwork on set, every detail is considered towards her vision.

With a life moving from one place to another, Johanna Aquino visualizes her work to express her colorful energy through contemporary portraiture and commercial photography. Johanna began her creative journey as a child in Guam by drawing on the walls of her home. She continued to draw on paper when her parents weren’t happy with the constant clean up of those walls. After developing a drawing ability, she received awards for her skill at school art contests. Years later, she moved on to photography upon the discovering her father’s film camera when she moved to Philippines. It wasn’t working at that time but she liked to play with it because she loved hearing the sound of the shutter, not knowing that she was practicing composition while playing pretend. She finally had a working camera and brought it with her everywhere so that she could practice her “eye” while on-the-go. She then brought her camera alongside her when she moved to Seattle, Washington to pursue a science degree at the University of Washington while shooting during her free time. After realizing that a science career wasn’t her full self expression, she returned to what made her most alive and decided to pursue photography professionally. Right away, she worked at a boutique design studio as a photo intern and creative assistant before moving to San Francisco to study photography.

Currently, Johanna Aquino is on her last semester, studying towards a BFA in Photography at the Academy of Art University in downtown San Francisco, California. She has works published in The San Francisco Chronicle, FSHN Magazine, BobCut Magazine and Postmates. Her current goal is to travel around the globe, build her experience connecting with others, while establishing herself as a commercial photographer in Manila, Philippines.
