About

My name is Johanna Aquino and for the past few years, photography has been my haven. Whenever I was stressed out, I’d find myself on a bus, camera inhand, waiting to get off some where new. I am currently a photography student at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, pursuing a fine arts degree.

I began shooting with the family’s point-and-shoot when my high school art teacher handed my first assignment to me. Two years later, I switched to a DSLR and for the next few years, photography went from fun hobby to needed escapism. As a college course, photography was not my first choice but I wasn’t exactly satisfied with what I chose either, which brought me to a long state of, how do I word it, dissatisfaction. For months on end, I would shoot just for the sake of escape. Finally, after a few years, I brought myself to San Francisco to attend art school. Whenever I look back, I think of how far I’ve come and how much I’ve changed and that makes me realize how much happier I am today. That happiness helps me take the photos I take.

If I’m not out shooting, I will usually be in my tiny kitchen cooking up something new. And I’m probably shooting what I cook.
